Class 3

In RE this term, we will be discussing the questions: Who are Muslims and how do the live? Why does Christmas matter to Christians?

In Class 3, children will be continuing with the RWI programme during English, making sure they are securing the foundation skills for both reading and writing. In the second part of the Autumn term, some children will be moving on to the Year 3 English curriculum and we will be studying a variety of fiction under the themes of ‘Wishes and Aspirations’. We will begin by reading Oliver Jeffer’s ‘The Heart and The Bottle’ and writing our own fantasy stories. After that, we will be writing in informative leaflet after reading Dear Earth.

In Maths, we will be revising and extending our knowledge of place value, particularly focusing on 2 and 3 digit numbers. We will be learning how to add and subtract 2 and 3 digit numbers using the column method. We will also be revising our knowledge of the 2, 5 and 10 times tables and learning the 3 and 4 times table.

In Science this term, we will be learning about Animals (including Humans). This will include learning about what animals need to survive; what herbivores, carnivores and omnivores are, as well as how we can classify birds, fish, reptiles, mammals and amphibians.

In Geography, we will be learning all about the United Kingdom. We will start our topic by learning about our school and local area. We will study the key geographical features in our local area. We will learn the difference be tween a village, town and city. We will then go on to study the countries that make up the UK including: Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland. We will focus on the capital cities in these countries and key famous monuments.
