Autumn Term 2016
Class 3 are going to have a fun filled and packed Autumn Term! Here are some of things we will be covering:
The children will develop their knowledge of the Viking invasion and settlement in Britain through a series of practical and informative blocks that have imaginative outcomes such as a Viking Quest board game, a making a model of a Viking long boat, a Viking feast, designing and making a Viking shield, a mythological creature and a Viking celebration event.
Children will find answers to questions such as: Where did the Vikings come from? Where did they invade and settle? Why did they leave Scandinavia? How do we know about them? The will work on time lines, map work, completing a quiz and creative writing exercises. The children will begin to appreciate why the Vikings were successful and to empathise with the people of Britain who experienced invasion.
Keeping Healthy: Children will become a team of personal trainers for (real) clients in need of expert, health, dietary and training advice. They will develop specialised knowledge, skills and understanding in nutrition, muscles, bones and joints and even conduct their own research in order to answer their client’s questions. They will make a presentation tailored to their client’s needs that will set them on the road to a healthier life style.
Light & Shadow: During this sequence children will create their own shadow puppet play using their expert knowledge and skills on light and shadows. They will make a theatre and puppets for the show in groups and conduct their own investigations on shadows, light and reflections.
During Computing sessions this term, the children will be learning how to research information on the internet to help us know more about topic. They will also be creating their own games by using the coding game Scratch.
